This isn’t just a job. It’s a calling. Nobody works in public safety to get rich. It’s hard work, and it’s largely unsung. The work matters because it means something to make a community safer. In fact, it means everything.
NEVER QUIT AWARD WINNERS IN PUBLIC SAFETY
As elite professionals in our fields, the following members of AFSCME Public Safety have received the Never Quit Service Award in recognition of their outstanding service to our communities, our union and our country.
Hector Travieso Miranda guards some of the most dangerous criminals in Puerto Rico. The veteran corrections officer knows he’s dealing with people that society wants to see locked up.
“This is a job where you know you are going in fine, but you don’t know how or if you’re going to come out,” said Travieso Miranda, a member of SPUPR (Council 95) who works at the Sargento Pedro Joel Rodriguez Mateo Correctional Complex in Ponce, Puerto Rico.
Growing up in Puerto Rico, all of Adalberto Díaz’s friends knew that he had a dream to become a forensic investigator. Today, he has achieved that dream, serving his community at the Institute of Forensic Sciences of Puerto Rico, in the capital, San Juan.
